WEEK 2: SOCIAL BOOKMARKING! (Diigo, Twitter, Pixton, etc.)

E.T. PHONE HOME! This week's module is all about networking and social bookmarking!  The three technology tools we used were Diigo, Twitter, and Pixton.

Diigo is an excellent tool to bookmark pages across all devices.  It allows you to highlight important text and save pages to your personal bookmark list.  This tool can be useful for research in any area and career paths.  One of the challenges to consider when implementing this tool is ensure it is properly installed in Chrome to gain easy access.

Twitter is a popular networking tool and can also be useful for keeping up with current events.  Twitter gained interest during President Donald Trump's term but it's not just for controversial topics.  It is a great way to connect with people in your same career path.  One of the challenges to consider when implementing Twitter is knowing the lingo and the ways to connect and communicate within the app.  Check out the twitter help center for everything you need to know about using twitter.  It can be very intimidating at first, but it is surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it.

Finally, the last technology tool we used was Pixton.  Pixton is a unique way to capture readers attention and tell a story.  There are other uses for Pixton, but we focused on the comic builder aspect.   This tool can be used for company newsletters to emphasis a point with a comic or in a classroom setting to grab the attention of students and explain topics.  A challenge that should be considered when implementing this tool is navigating the design aspect of your cartoon and making sure to deliver your point.  It's easy to get wrapped up into the details of creating and overlook the content.

That's a wrap on this week's Module.  Don't forget to check back next week to see how this Gen X is surviving ETEC, along with new tech tools and hacks.
